Welcome to the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild's Green Roof Project. The Guild is composed of approximately 400 members who are building contractors, architects, designers, horticulturists, students, and others interested in promoting sustainable design and construction practices. Our chapters range from Eugene, OR to Spokane, WA to Vancouver, BC and points in between. One of our primary projects is the green roof project.

It originated in August of 2000 with a meeting of 4 people who wanted to find out about green roofs, who previously knew nothing at all about them. This group started with web searches, followed by emails to green roof vendors, green roof designers, and other green roof enthusiasts. This was followed by more and more of the same plus some personal contacts with materials suppliers, granting organizations, and our own network of mailing lists and members.

In researching we benefited a great deal from all those who have gone before us and from those who were generous with their information and time. Because of this, we felt obliged to offer all of our information to the public in order to return the favors of so many and also to promote a roofing approach that we believe deserves the serious attention of the residential sector of the building industry.

Though much of our information is collected from well tested and well researched sources, for liability reasons we must emphasize that all the information on this site is of a draft nature. We are still experimenting and evaluating. We encourage those of you who wish to build green roofs with this information to do so at your own risk. The purpose of this site is to foster research and commentary, not to offer prescriptive solutions.

With that in mind we invite you to heartlessy critique any content on this site that you find exception with. We can only improve with your help, so please offer your commentary and questions. Thank you!
