I’ve been in construction for 21 years, building custom homes and providing services for residential remodels and additions. Polar Bear is a small company with four employees constructing energy efficient homes. We build 5-star Built Green homes around the Puget Sound region.
To me building green means that you consider the overall impact of the materials, techniques and systems that you choose for your building project as they relate to the natural and human-made environments. The “greenest” construction projects produce the least amount of waste, and use less energy to build, operate and maintain.
I’ve been a supporting member of the Guild for many years. Now I want to make an active contribution as a member of the Chapter Board. I’d like to see building codes and land-use planning changed to make Green Building more accessible and functional for more people. Education is the key.

I’m Elizabeth Diane (people know me as “Lisa”), president of Lucid 9 Design, Inc. My company provides exclusively “green” new home and remodel designs, from conception to contract documents. I have designed a variety of systems in new homes, including SIP, ICF, advanced framing, bermed homes with living roofs and utilizing passive solar and daylighting strategies. I have extensive experience in the AEC industry, including architectural design, civil engineering design, development and land surveying. I have served on the board for Hypatia in the Woods and volunteered design work with Habitat for Humanity’s Fairview development. For the past two years, I helped design the Guild’s Sand in the City sculptures.
I am interested in giving back to the great group of EcoBuilding members that support Terra and, subsequently Lucid 9 Design, Inc. by serving on the Board. I would really love to see the South Puget Sound Chapter continue with its momentum toward being a premier education and networking resource for our diverse membership and the community.

Greenbuilding is going mainstream, and while that poses challenges, it also means opportunity.
I want to serve on the board of the South Sound Chapter because I want to help our community lead the transition to greenbuilding as the standard industry practice. As an attorney practicing in real estate, environmental, and land use matters, I am particularly interested in ensuring that the Guild has a voice in shaping the legal and regulatory framework that is evolving as building practices change. I also believe that fulfilling the educational goals of the Guild is a top priority. Our communities and the industry will benefit when consumers understand that greenbuilding practices can be incorporated into every project, large or small, and that it can be done affordably.
I have a strong foundation in the environmental ethic that lies at the heart of greenbuilding, many years of experience working with law and policy, and a sincere enthusiasm for the role that greenbuilding plays in creating sustainable communities. I would be honored to serve on the board and to work with you as the industry and our community tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities in the years to come.

I am the local manager for Northwest Certified Forestry, a program of NNRG, a non-profit based in Port Townsend. For over ten years, I have worked to combine economic development with environmental enhancement in the Pacific Northwest, including experimental work in Permaculture Systems. In my spare time, I own and manage a 30-acre FSC-Certified tree farm near Oakville, WA.
As a member of the Guild Board, I want to help connect local builders and designers with local manufacturers of green building products. This is a major stumbling block for both builders and manufacturers – a supply / demand disconnect that we can help solve. Through NNRG I specifically focused on linking markets and suppliers of FSC-Certified wood products. I will continue to work on the Chapter’s “Build Local Alliance” program to help connect these dots, and showcase the green building projects of our members which demonstrate the use of local goods and services.
Most of all, I am constantly amazed by the enthusiasm and competence of the people in our organization. I really enjoy the exchange of ideas between the Board and Membership – our diversity is the greatest strength of the South Sound Chapter.

As department manager and senior Architectural Designer for The Artisans Group, my passion is to discover how a client lives, and through a collaborative and iterative process, ‘put a skin’ on their lifestyle. This process results in a lively and dynamic green home that is greater than the sum of its parts.
I specialize in designs which use space efficiently, minimize footprint and incorporate beauty at every turn. With ample experience in alternative building techniques, our services range from site planning to remodel and new construction design, specifications, construction documents, and general contracting.
I have an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Design and Fine Art, am currently perusing my LEED accreditation, and have 6 years of industry experience. I honor the opportunity to give back to an organization investing in the equity of people locally and globally.

I’m Peter Spotts, currently on the Grants committee.
This is an exciting time in the life of the Guild, with many opportunities to serve our members and outreach more than ever. I want to work to improve the flow of communication between committees, members, and the board. I also want to make it simpler for members and visitors to get a clear idea of the things we are doing, and help it be easier to be involved.
I helped write the Dept. of Ecology grant proposal to continue funding the Guild for 2009-2011. I have worked as a copyeditor, content provider, resort manager, web technician, and performing artist. Currently you might see me downtown at my present job, driving the “Green Machine,” a nifty sidewalk sweeper contraption.
I’m not a green builder, just an avid reader, do-it-yourselfer and hanger-on.
My main interest in serving on the board is to help provide calmness, organization, and measurability as the Guild grows in size, activity and scope. I would like to help take us to the next level as a mature organization.

My interests align with the true green values of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild. I believe that energy and sustainability are required components of any ‘green’ program. I am opposed to and aware of ‘green washing’. I believe it is important to define who we are and what our values are. It is also important to for each of us to have personal paradigms that are grounded in fact. Whoever we are is the gift or curse we bring to our work, relationships and leadership roles. I aspire to listen and to not only be open, but to seek new data in regard to any decision I will support or oppose.
I am currently a green builder that focuses on the energy and sustainability components of green.
I am involved in the following:
- Member of ECO NW Builders Guild
- Board member of Olympia Master Builders
- State alternate for BIAW
- Committee member of Built Green of Washington
- Appointed to steering committee of Built Green
- Member of The Affordable Housing Council
I care about and am deeply involved in the building community.
I am a member of Prodigy Homes LLC. Prodigy is owned and operated by a mother/son building team.
