Creative Re-use, Preservation, and Sustainability through House Moving
Jeff McCord
of Nickel Bros House Moving will address this topic

  • Many housesĀ are needlessly torn down due to development pressures in up-zoned areas, even when they are of high quality
  • Creative re-use of a house (when it would otherwise be demolished) is the single largest savings of energy and materials compared to salvage alone
  • The amount of savings for the environment is quite staggering, with an average of 60-80 trees-worth of lumber kept out of a landfill for every house saved
  • House moving can be very cost-effective, depending on economic climate, distance of move, and other conditions
  • One ironic benefit of the troubled economy is that fewer houses are being torn down and more houses are preserved
