Far Reach House
Scott Homes
The Far Reach House is a sweet 2000 sq ft home on a wooded hilltop over-looking Evergreen Valley and the Olympics. Its innovative design combines proven technology with up-and-coming building sciences to create a healthy, affordable family home.
The RESNET program predicts this house will only cost $67/year to heat. It’s predicted to be completed mid-March 2011. Once the owners have moved in, WSU will monitor to see what the actual numbers are.
Contributing to its amazing efficiency are:
- R 40 structural insulated panel (SIP) walls and floors
- R 50 SIP roof panels
- Triple pane casement (U=.11 to .15)
- Very air tight
- Heat recovery ventilator (HRV) for high indoor air quality
- Ductless heat pump (DHP) for heating and cooling
- 98% gas tankless water heater
- Sealed gas fireplace
- CFL and LED lighting
- Building to Net Zero Energy, Energy Star, Indoor airPLUS and 5 Star Built Green standards
Scott Homes, Inc (http://www.scotthomes.com) built the Far Reach House as an experiment to see if a super energy efficient custom house could also be affordable. It turns out the answer is YES!
