Building an air tight envelope represents one of the largest opportunities to reduce the heating and cooling loads required to keep our spaces warm and comfortable. Heat moves with air. If there are airleaks in the building envelope, heat will leave with the air during the heating season. Conversely, Hot air will enter the envelope in the same way during the cooling season.
As this air movement moves through wall and roof systems it can often carry water vapor with it. When the water vapor becomes trapped in the wrong location, mold and building damage may be the result.
As such air-sealing and vapor management are important steps to be done in the planning stages. The workshop will discuss both planning and application of air tight construction products from the Swiss company SIGA. The hands on practicum will be both discussion and applying a few of the products to get a feel for how they work in the field.
