My name is John Ketola and I am a Northwest EcoBuilding Guild South Puget Sound Chapter member. I am a self-employed painting contractor. I am nominating myself for one of the five positions on the Steering Committee of the South Puget Sound Chapter because of the incentives that the chapter provides me and motivates me towards my part in the “Green” movement. I have been a member for a short time but have always been an environmentally conscious person and business owner. If a small of amount of the dedication and hard work that has been accomplished by the current chapter leaders continues when the new leadership takes over, then I want to be a part of that.

My personal profile (see attached resumé) will attest to the fact that when I believe in and get involved with an association, I follow through no matter what position I am asked to fill. The knowledge I have gained through other affiliations and owning my own business for over 30 years gives me the credibility to manage any position asked of me. The most exciting part of the EcoBuilding Guild is in the future and I think whoever is elected to steer our chapter in the next few years will be an integral part of the whole region. I want to be a part of that.

My name is Stuart Chisholm and I am interested in committing further to the Guild by serving on the board. I have been in Olympia for all but a few years since 1974, attending and graduating from The Evergreen State College. I raised three children here and have long been interested in local, regional and global “quality of life” issues and concerns. By participating in an Olympia visioning project some years ago, I helped develop design criteria which the Olympia City Planning Department uses for their standards of code.

My personal experience includes working for a wood window firm, marketing, and owning a downtown photography studio. For a number of years, I worked in the building trades as a plumber. I have been at Coldwell Banker as a full time Realtor for the past two years. I am committed to this career path and, last year, completed the Green Realtor training course. Sharing information with clients on the benefits of Green Building and explaining the upgrades that would benefit existing structures are very important to my core values. Unless we make essential changes, we will all be faced with greater environmental challenges than the current prognosis suggests.

Networking, marketing, and membership are areas where I feel I may best benefit the Guild. I think my work history and skills will prove of value in helping present and market the Guild and in gaining new members. I welcome the opportunity to help.

The company with which I am affiliated, Quality Renovation & Carpentry, is dedicated to ecological and healthy building, and to supporting community and local economies in the great Pacific Northwest .  We have been doing business in Washington for a decade, all the while striving to be eco-conscious and incorporate sustainability and energy efficiency into every project.  This is true whether we are building a deck or arbor with sustainable products, or whether we are updating kitchens and baths with energy efficient appliances and healthy and sustainable materials.

Recently, we decided to step up our response to global climate change by offering home and commercial energy-performance evaluations and energy retrofit / weatherization services.  Through our company, we also are determined to be more active in shaping our community and industry as we all reach toward the future and smart solutions.  We want to partner with others in our industry around education and finding ways to do things better.

Since 1996 I served as an environmental and natural resources attorney for the States of Washington and Ohio . This year I joined the Washington Employment Security Department as an appellate administrative law judge.  With my background in environmental law and my helping Quality Renovation & Carpentry refine its green building practices, I am hopeful that I can contribute to the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild to help it grow and flourish.

SPS Chapter BoardRealtor & Trainer
Green Village Realty

I am a Realtor with Green Village Realty and I-House Affordable Green Homes, a past President of the South Puget Sound Chapter of the NW EcoBuilding Guild, and past member of the Regional Board.  I have long been dedicated to educating and inspiring others to think, design, work, and live sustainable lifestyles. My objective, as a Certified Instructor through The Washington State Board of Realtors, is to teach the basic fundamentals of leadership in Green Real Estate Practices to real estate agents and the basic principles of sustainability to the broader members of the real estate community, such as appraisers, home buyers and sellers, and home inspectors.  I became a licensed real estate agent in 2003.

I am a certified Sustainable Building Advisor and teach Green Real Estate practices for “clock hours” throughout Washington State , as well as through The Board of Realtors in Chicago and various agencies in California and Florida .  I have helped co-ordinate events such as the Habitat for Humanity "Mainstream Green" conference and developed classes which promote sustainability and energy efficiency.

As a member of the SPS Chapter Steering Committee, I will offer continuity and depth of perspective to support other members who are newer to the organization.  I have seen this Chapter grow from 7 or 8 people meeting in a restaurant, to more than 100 members - and one of the strongest Chapters of the Guild in its three-state region.  I will make important contributions to maintaining our culture and history as an organization, even as we grow and adapt to the changing times.
