Gee.jpeg

The Gee House is a co-housing project near the Gonzaga campus. Built to accommodate a community of 14 students, this project has qualified for the LEED for Homes Platinum rating. The residence has 14 bedrooms, a shared bath for every two rooms, laundry facilities on each of three levels, and three really exciting shared areas on the first floor: a “TV stadium”, a commercial grade kitchen and a conversation area with a garage door that opens to thesidewalk. Designed to mimic the social qualities of New Orleans balcony culture, but built with the privacy needs of the student in mind, this residence is a rare balance of quality construction, and thoughtful, environmentally and socially conscious design.

Meadow House is a newly constructed single-family SIP (StructurallyInsulated Panel) home in the Palisades neighborhood on the west side of Spokane. Modern design and spectacular views nearly overshadow the highly efficient thermal envelope and passive solar features. Hydronic radiant floors through out warm up the clean, cast concrete floors, and the natural lighting makes this home very appealing.

The Daehlin Residence is a new ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) home, also in the Palisades neighborhood. Both passive and active solar features, including solar electric and hot water, enhance its advanced thermal envelope. The garage, which accommodates an electric car, exemplifies the design requirements for electric vehicles. Water conservation features include low flow fixtures, a grey water system, and water efficient landscaping.

Sweet Home Palisades The first of the newly constructed homes in the Palisades, this home’s established landscape blends seamlessly into the meadow, yet is linked purposefully to the house using interior sight lines and views. The water-wise and native plants fit into the permeable hardscape that feels like a continuation of the interior living space. The house also boasts an advanced thermal envelope with passive solar features and a ground source heat pump. Construction of the SIP housewas completed with waste minimization techniques.

biggarray.jpeg

Biggs Solar Array The homeowner has developed this extensive solar array over time: two tracking arrays, one fixed, plus a solar hot water array. The system puts the net energy use of this home near netzero annual energy costs. The set up for the electric car in the garage and the water source heat pump, round out this sustainable energy showcase.

linwick.jpeg

The Linwick Residence is a remodel in Veradale that best exemplifies the “lowhanging fruit” philosophy. Remodeling an existing residence is perhaps one of the best sustainable practices, and as this residence shows, can include energy efficiency and material upgrades while keeping material use and construction waste to a minimum.
