Older homes were built to function as a system of repairable parts.  The historic Leavenworth Ave. home, built in 1928, has already lost some of its vintage features such as its original sash and double-hung wood windows.  We will be restoring some of that character with this project.

Here is how the Leavenworth Ave. House looked in 1938, compared to how it looks today.  Come back in April to see what it looks like partially restored!

For the Green Tour, Eco Woodworks will demonstrate and apply proven techniques to restore and weatherize old wood windows and doors, and teach simple, low-cost solutions for seasonal preventative maintenance.  When utilized together, these steps add energy efficiency to the home, while keeping a piece of history out of the landfill.

MAuerbach_logo.jpgIn addition to weatherization, Eco Woodworks will be working with Marisha Auerbach,  Permaculture Design Instructor, to keep it green by developing a permaculture yardscape at the site that integrates annual vegetable beds with perennial landscaping such as berries, edible flowers, herbs and fruit trees. We also hope to incorporate a rain garden. Visit Marisha's new Website, My Garden Footprint

We intend to demonstrate to the community that landscaping can be an ornamental as well as a productive function for homeowners by producing food, filtering storm water and creating wildlife habitat; all things that a typical urban landscaped grass yard would not.
