The Inspiration Home is snuggled at the end of a line of energy efficient Craftsman bungalows. Scott Homes built the bungalows in 2007 to showcase their Craftsman style and their green building techniques. The Inspiration Home is the the next generation of Scott Homes green building.

The focus of the Inspiration Home is to show you how easy it is to access green/efficient home building materials. You may have heard of some of these materialsĀ but didn't know they were on the market yet. Some may be completely new to you. This is your chance to see innovation from the ground up.

Last year, Scott Homes took their building techniques to a whole new level with a home that is proving to cost $70 a year to heat. This year the Inspiration Home is building on that success to demonstrate how affordable an extremely energy efficient and healthy home can be.

The Inspiration Home will be under construction during the Green Tour (wear your boots). This is a great opportunity for you to see the bare bones of an over-the-top energy efficient home featuring structural insulated panel construction. Come by and ask lots of questions. You'll be surprised how simple building a green AND energy efficient home proves to be.

Contributing to its amazing efficiency will be:

  • R 40 structural insulated panel (SIP) walls
  • R 50 SIP roof panels
  • Triple pane casement (U=.11 to .15)
  • Very air tight
  • Heat recovery ventilator (HRV) for high indoor air quality
  • Ductless heat pump (DHP) for heating and cooling
  • Solar thermal water heater used with a highly efficient elctric water heater
  • Closed cell spray foam sealing the garage from the living space
  • CFL and LED lighting
  • Building to Net Zero Energy, Energy Star, Indoor airPLUS and 5 Star Built Green standards

As the Inspiration Home goes through the construction process, Scott Homes will use green, recycled, and/or local materials wherever reasonable. A current example is using crushed glass from Concrete Recyclers of Tumwater asĀ fill under the garage floor.
