Historic Preservation with Olympia Heritage Commission

Built to last in 1860 this historic treasure is still going strong thanks to proper care and maintenance! Wood window specialists, energy efficiency experts and Heritage volunteers will show how to weatherize and preserve the value of historic homes and buildings. The greenest home is the one you don't have to build! Preserve History!

The amazing story of historic buildings:  they were built to be repaired and built to last!  The timbers used in many of our oldest homes came from the region and can withstand decades of rain and wear with even modest maintenance.

Dave King, owner of Eco Woodworks, will demonstrate the weatherization techniques used to keep the Bigelow House, Olympia’s oldest residence, as energy efficient as possible while maintaining the historic character. He will offer practical do-it-yourself advice and tips for weatherizing your older home.

Olympia Heritage Commission members will be available to chat with homeowners about resources to help them maintain their historic properties, and the financial and cultural importance of historic preservation.
