May Education Session: The Code Reality
May 26, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Code Reality: Understanding code changes & processes – a presentation of recent code changes, implementation issues, and future code possibilities.
As an industry we live with codes as legally binding minimum requirements. What are the issues we need to understand as we implement code changes in our planning, design, & building work? How do we adjust and improve our work & management practices to exceed these minimum requirements? Can we be influential advocates for needed & more coordinated code changes and processes?
Presenters:
Brian Cloward, Architect of cSd briancloward@comcast.net
Brian will provide a framework to our discussion of new code issues that impact the building profession locally & nationally. He will propose advocacy and coordination for better code implementation on behalf of companies & jurisdictions. (A pathway toward Alternate Code Realities!)
Andrew van Leeuwen, Architect of Build LLC avl@buildllc.com
Andrew will illustrate the incremental growth and complexity of the building code leading to an industry of constant change. He will also address the contradictory forces of design vs. code and city vs. state.
Brian Cowan, Building Performance Specialist of Carlisle Classic Homes briancowan3@gmail.com
Bryan will end our discussion with a specific case study on air barriers. He will review detailed & practical building details that put a stop to air leakage.
