Green Building Programs

These programs include standards, certification checklists, and, in many instances, require third-party verification. While existing building and energy codes set minimum safety and performance standards, green building standards often go beyond code requirements.

Built Green Washington

A nonprofit cooperative representing local Built Green programs throughout the state of Washington. Built Green programs have been serving as a resource for Washington homebuilders and homeowners since 1996 and are among the most respected local green building programs in the nation.

Passive House

Northwest ENERGY STAR

The Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes program is designed to help builders construct energy efficient homes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Earth Advantage

A nonprofit organization working with builders and developers in Oregon and across the Northwest to bring the most energy efficient, sustainable and healthy homes to the market.

LEED for Homes

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes, including affordable housing, mass-production homes, custom designs, duplexes and townhouses, and more.

Salmon-Safe

Salmon-Safe offers a series of peer-reviewed certification and accreditation programs linking site development land management practices with the protection of agricultural and urban watersheds. Salmon-Safe’s goal is to minimize the impacts of development on sensitive aquatic and upland resources, and enhance salmon habitat.

NAHBGreen

The National Green Building Program (NAHBGreen) is sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders & NAHB Research Center and helps builders & remodelers across the country design, construct, and certify green homes.

Health House

A program of the American Lung Association, Health House helps builders and homeowners select building materials, techniques, interior decoration and designs to optimize the highest indoor air quality. Also visit healthhouse.org for more info.
